Orient you to your new neighborhood (ie: banks, library,
recreation centers, etc.)

Provide you with a key to the home

Allow use of the telephone, living room, laundry and other household
appliances

Allow use of the TV and computer ( usage rules may apply in some
homes)
▪
Encourage and help you with your English
▪
Treat you with kindness and respect
▪
Help you to learn about Vancouver and
Canadian culture
▪
Be considerate of family members and respect household rules
▪
Be responsible for your personal sundries (ie: toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)
▪
Inform the family if you will not be home for dinner
▪
Use the telephone for local calls only
▪
Inform the family if you will be away overnight
▪
Pay all homestay fees directly to the host family when payment is
due
▪
Give 2 weeks notice to the family if you are changing your living
arrangements
▪
Make an effort to participate in family activities
▪
Invite guests to the home only with the host family's permission
▪
Ensure there are no phone calls after 10 PM
▪
Have adequate medical insurance while in Canada
